My name is Richard Hemmer, and this here is my doing.

The main purpose of this website is to tell people about how to host their own content on their own servers.

Basically, I will write about software – open source or proprietary – which can be self-hosted, focused mainly on private content creators, the kinds of people who would usually set up a hosted blog or just use one of the plethora of photo sharing websites out there.

Why? Because I want people to realize that it’s possible to not be dependent on other services when it comes to their own content and communications.

I’m aware of the fact that for the everyday user, setting up software on a server is a most daunting task. My efforts here should ideally change that. I won’t be able to do this simply by writing about software. I’m hoping to get server providers and software coders on board, in order to ease the pain of maintaining self-hosted software by creating some sort of joint-effort of everyone involded. I’ve got quite a few ideas on how to makes this work, and frankly, I’m excited. Until then, enjoy what I’m doing now and spread the word if you like it.

Currently, everything here is a bit rough around the edges. I will be ironing out the kinks as I go along.

If you feel you’d like to contribute, sponsor or simply tell me I’m delusional, go here.

For anyone interested in a few other reasons why it’s a good idea to become more independent and self-reliant in matters of communication and publishing on the web, listen to this speech by Eben Moglen:
