Privacy Policy

Hi there! This page is meant to show you how much of your personally identifiable data is stored when you visit and interact with this website (in accordance with the GDPR or in Austria DSGVO, TKG 2003).

Metrics

Matomo

In order to properly operate this website, I need some statistics about the visitors to this website. I do this by using Matomo, an open-source metrics software. It’s self-hosted on one of my servers and IP-addresses are not stored in full, which means no personally identifiable information is stored. Still, if you don’t want to be tracked, Matomo honours the “Do Not Track” feature built into most browsers, or you can simply opt out of being tracked by clicking here.

Jetpack/Wordpress.com Stats

Built into this WordPress installation is  Jetpack, another tool to measure visitor numbers, built by Automattic, Inc. 132 Hawthorne Street San Francisco, CA 94107, USA, using the tracking technology of Quantcast Inc., 201 3rd St, Floor 2, San Francisco, CA 94103-3153, USA. WordPress.com-Stats uses so-called “Cookies”, text-files which are stored on your computer, which allows the tool to analyze your behaviour on this website. This data is then sent to a server located in the USA, where your IP-address is anonymized immediately after processing. If you block the storing of third-party cookies, you won’t be tracked. Generally, if you want to opt-out of being tracked by Quantcast, you can do this by clicking the following link: http://www.quantcast.com/opt-out. Do remember that if you ever delete all your cookies from your computer, you will have to click this link again.

Data collected by Automattic is deleted after 28 days. If you have the “Do Not Track” feature activated in your browser, this WordPress Stats instance is set to honor this setting and you will not be tracked.

Podlove

I use the Podlove Plugin to serve my podcast.

Both Podlove Subscribe Button and Podlove Web Player may be served via keycdn.com2 (keycdn GDPR statement5).

If Tracking/Analytics is enabled, user IP addresses are used to determine their geographic location. IP addresses are not saved, but anonymized and then hashed together with the User Agent to generate a request id, which is saved. The User Agent is saved as well but cannot be connected to the user since the user IP is never saved.

Cookies

Cookies are small files which are stored on a user’s device – in that case your device. They are used here mainly for metric purposes, but may also be used to make sure your visit here is unencumbered (for example by not having to click the Cookie Notification every time you visit this website). You can turn off the storing of cookies right in your browser, in which case no cookies will be stored on your devices.

Contact and Comments

If you contact me via the contact form found on my contact page or comment on a post, your personal data, that is your name, your e-mail address, optionally your company name and your message, will be stored only in order to process your inquiry. Which means: I will use your e-mail address to reply to you and your name to address you accordingly. Personal data entered via the contact form will be deleted after six months.

Third Party Content

My website’s theme uses fonts pulled in from Google Fonts. Google is fully compliant with the GDPR, so that’s actually not a problem. Nevertheless, if you feel like you’d rather want this website displayed using system fonts, you can always choose to disallow websites to display their own fonts. In Firefox, for example, it is done like so.

Information on stored data

You have the right to know which of your personal data I have stored, and I am happy to to tell you. You can then decide to have that data wiped as well. Just write me an e-mail at richard@selfhostedweb.org or call me at +43720515433 and we’ll get it done.
